NATURE

As the Spring Equinox approaches and the lighter nights burst in, we all feel that urge to get outdoors again. Spring is almost upon us, and you can feel it in the air at Ardlui. Loch Lomond is arguably at its most beautiful in the weeks and months ahead. The bluebells scatter the woods, and the Loch begins to fill with activity and wildlife.

The RSPB’s Springtime Eggstravaganza trail kicks off in April and takes you on an adventure around the reserve, enjoying the wonders of nature at this special time in the calendar. And, of course, it wouldn’t be spring without the arrival of the gorgeous lambs! Around Ardlui, we are blessed to have so many running around the fields at this time of year. You can even spend time helping look after the ewes and the new lambs on a farm in the area. Arnprior is just one of the local farms that allow visitors in during their lambing season and if you’re lucky you might even be there for a birth! FESTIVALS

The better weather also marks the start of festival season and kicking us off is Loch Lomond’s Food & Drink festival on the first weekend in April. The free event runs 10am – 6pm Saturday 2nd and Sunday 3rd April at Loch Lomond Shore in Balloch. They’ve promised a full line-up of entertainment on their Festival Stage as well as Cooking Masterclasses, Alcohol Tastings, Street Food Stalls as well as host of local produce on offer. After having to cancel previous years, it’s sure to be a great time for all the family. Loch Lomond Food & Drink Festival.

EASTER

Easter weekend is the 15th – 18th April this year and is always an exciting time to be on the Loch. Special events are held throughout the holidays, including the annual duck race in Aberfoyle. A seasonal sight you don’t want to miss, trust us! And where better to compete in a family Easter egg hunt than the wonderful woodlands paths of The Trossachs? There are several organised trails to take part in or you could go wild on your own and create lasting memories for you and your loved ones.

However you choose to spend your Springtime on the Loch, there is no doubt that it will be memorable. Whether you are roaming the hills in search of wildlife and adventure or sitting back and enjoying the lighter evenings by the water, Ardlui Retreat has it all waiting for you.
